| It has to look worse before it looks better! Porch
is off and removal of the old aluminum siding uncovered reusable
wood siding beneath. |
We also discovered sill damage on the front side
of the house. We expected it on the rear so now this had to be replaced
too. Luckily, The framing above the sill on this wall was still
intact. |

 |
| Guess you shouldn't fill a block porch foundation
with dirt and expect the wood next to it not to rot! |
A side view of the old aluminum and the newly discovered,
original wood siding. We sourced the same material locally to knit
into the areas where the windows were moved. |

 |
| Getting ready to remove the wall dividing the living
room and kitchen creating a new great room... |
Note the new beam above the new window locations.
It's supported on a king-stud between the windows. This area will
become the new dining table location. |
|
|
| View towards the front of the house with the wall
gone... |
This was the wiring we found behind the walls. Apparently,
the old fuse box had been moved to the basement and the wiring was
put back together with wire nuts. Unless we can verify permitted
electrical updates, we always plan to install new wiring. This is
a good example of why! |

 |
| Close up of old wiring connected with electrical
tape and wire nuts. You never know what's behind the walls... |
We have no idea as to the explanation of this framing
but it had to change. Old venting and rot from leakage above sealed
the deal, this wall was getting reconstructed! |
 |
|
| After building the new landing, the old stairs were
used for temporary access to the upper level. A steep climb! |
The old upper bathroom dormer and some roof framing
was removed for the expanded new dormer structure. |
